The Bhaktapur Durbar square housed the Malla kings of Nepal from the 14th to the 15th century and later the kings of the Kingdom of Bhaktapur until the kingdom was conquered in 1769. It served as a seat of power and grandeur during its heyday. The square was once vast, but earthquakes and subsequent changes reduced its size.

It is divided into three parts: Kvathū Lyākū (the westernmost part), which contains temples and courtyards, and two other districts. Visiting Bhaktapur Durbar Square offers a glimpse into Nepal’s regal past and the intricate craftsmanship of its architecture.
